The Man Behind Every Court

Joe Murphy has spent over 45 years doing one thing exceptionally well: building sport courts. Not managing them from an office — building them. On-site, hands-on, from the first shovel of dirt to the final coat of surface material.

That direct involvement is what sets Smart Sport Surfacing apart. When you hire us, Joe personally oversees every phase of your project — excavation, drainage engineering, masonry walls, post-tension concrete slab, and surface application. There are no layers of project managers between you and the person responsible for the quality of your court.

Joe’s career includes landmark projects like the reconstruction of the historic West Side Tennis Club at Forest Hills Stadium for World Championship Tennis. That same level of precision and craftsmanship goes into every residential court we build in the Hamptons.

How We Work

We work closely with the Hamptons’ top custom home builders, landscape architects, and architects to deliver courts that integrate seamlessly with the surrounding property. Many of our projects involve complex site conditions — steep slopes, heavy clay soils, high water tables near the ocean and bays — that require specialized engineering knowledge.

We also maintain a seasonal schedule that prioritizes quality over volume. Operations pause during harsh winter months to ensure every pour, every surface coat, and every detail meets our standard. We’d rather build fewer courts and build them right.

Our Service Area

We serve the Hamptons and East End of Long Island, extending to the Suffolk border on the south shore. Our deep knowledge of this specific region — its soil conditions, water tables, building codes, and aesthetic expectations — is a significant part of what we bring to every project.
